Client Spotlight Joslyn

Once a month we love to highlight Stay Fit Mom clients that are doing incredible and see what we can learn from them. Today we have the pleasure of interviewing Joslyn! Joslyn has been a joy to coach. She started at 15 weeks postpartum and was looking for accountability. She jumped in head first and put in serious work over the last year. She initially was not exercising but has since started back to CrossFit. She has trusted Coach Chelsea throughout her whole journey. The scale did feel like a small obstacle at one point but after talking through it she has found that those “last five pounds” don’t matter if she’s feel amazing. And let’s be honest, she looks incredible! We’re so proud of you girl, you earned it!

Tell us a little bit about your story. Work? Married? Kids? What’s a typical day in your life look like?

Joslyn: Hi! I’m Joslyn! I grew up in Rhode Island. I met my husband, Justin, when we were teens while working at a restaurant. We got married in 2018 and went to Disney World on our honeymoon. We have a daughter together who just turned one. We live in Connecticut and commute to Rhode Island for our jobs. I’m a preschool special education teacher, so my workday is very busy! My typical day starts at 6:30 AM. I have quick breakfasts like hard-boiled eggs and toast. I’m a working mom, so my daughter goes to daycare while I teach. After work, I prepare for the next day and workout. My workouts fluctuate between at-home strength training and going to CrossFit classes. I make dinner most evenings and have really enjoyed the SFM monthly meal calendars to help me get organized! After our daughter is in bed, I usually have a couple of hours to catch up with my husband and relax with my favorite television series.

How did you find Stay Fit Mom and what made you decide to take the leap?

Joslyn: I have always been active and busy, so I felt overwhelmed at the thought of planning, prepping, and adjusting my macros appropriately. After my daughter was born in June 2022, I had a really hard time getting back to myself and my life was busier than ever. I followed the Stay Fit Mom Facebook page and was amazed by all the progress that the members were making. I decided to take the plunge into the program in November 2022. The entire SFM community has been so encouraging, and it would be much more difficult to do without the help of the entire community on my side.

Tips for counting macros postpartum.

We know that you started working with us right around 6 months postpartum. What advice do you have for women who are counting macros postpartum?

Joslyn: Prior to being pregnant, I had tracked my macros with a local nutritionist, but I knew I needed to take a different approach when tracking macros postpartum while nursing. My biggest advice is to provide yourself with a lot of grace and to trust the process. I wanted things to happen overnight, but with my coach Chelsea’s advice, I was able to stay on track and have faith in my journey.

You’ve been crushing this process for months! What would you say is the biggest reason for your success?

Joslyn: Meal prep has helped this process so much! It makes my work weeks so much easier when I can plan ahead and know what I am eating. Every Sunday, I cook a large batch of protein that can be transformed into different meals during the week to cut down on prep time. I also prepare all of my lunches and have quick & easy breakfasts. Also, having a weekly coach to connect with has truly been a tremendous blessing! I underestimated how essential having that sense of accountability would be. The knowledge that I have someone to report to every week serves as a powerful source of positive motivation for me.

People instinctively want to hit the gym 6 days a week to lose weight, but you’ve seen so much success solely focusing on your nutrition. What have you learned from your experience?

Joslyn: I have been able to lose weight, build muscle, and improve my overall performance. I feel stronger, more energized, and more confident than ever before. As a postpartum mom, I wasn’t in the position to hit the gym six times a week, so it was essential to have a health program that focused on nutrition. Over time, I was able to increase my fitness to four times a week with CrossFit and strength training. This journey has helped me learn that weight loss and overall health can be significantly influenced by what you eat and to have a healthy relationship with food.

How has your macro counting journey impacted other areas of your life besides getting a new wardrobe?

Joslyn: My overall mental and physical health and well-being has improved dramatically over the past 8 months. I have more energy to spend with my family, and I have a healthier relationship with food. I no longer fixate on diet and exercise, and I know how to indulge occasionally without sabotaging my progress.

Tell us about your experience working with Coach Chelsea specifically.

Joslyn: Chelsea is my biggest cheerleader and coach. She thoughtfully responds to my victories, concerns, and questions each week. It is clear that she has taken the time to read my check-in, look at my week, and carefully consider all the factors when coaching me. She encourages me when I am feeling down, offers amazing advice, and provides support when I am unsure. I trust her process and I look forward to my check-in every week! I am so thankful for Chelsea’s guidance and understanding. She has been my number one fan, and I truly could not have done this without her!
