Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes are a mouthwatering twist on two classic comfort foods. Combining the savory goodness of a Philly cheesesteak with the messy, flavorful appeal of a sloppy joe, this dish features seasoned ground beef sautéed with onions, peppers, and melted cheese, all served on a soft, toasted bun. The result is a rich, hearty sandwich that delivers the best of both worlds—tender, cheesy, and full of bold, satisfying flavors. Perfect for a casual weeknight dinner or a game day treat, Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes are sure to become a new favorite.

SUPPLIES USED
15″ Lodge Cast Iron Pan – I love this pan for one dish meals. It works great on the stovetop as well as for cooking things inside the oven.
Half size sheet pan – This pan is a staple in my kitchen! It’s perfect for so many things and, in this case, is perfect for toasting the buns!
What Buns Should I use?
- Brioche Buns – The ones from Walmart are our favorite!
- Hamburger Buns
- French Bread
- Sourdough Bread

Storing Leftovers
Allow the Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes to cool to room temperature before storing. If possible, store the meat mixture and the buns separately to prevent the buns from becoming soggy. Place the meat mixture in an airtight container and the buns in a separate plastic bag or airtight container. Store both in the fridge, the meat mixture will keep for about 3–4 days, and the buns will keep for up to 3 days.
Reheating:
- Meat Mixture (Stovetop Method):
- Place the meat mixture in a skillet or pan over medium heat. Stir occasionally and add a small splash of water or beef broth if it seems dry. Heat until fully warmed through (about 5–7 minutes).
- Place the meat mixture in a microwave-safe bowl.
- Cover it loosely with a microwave-safe lid or paper towel.

Love this recipe so much. Making it again this week for my family because we all love it.
Really enjoyed it. Only issue was the salt. I would probably cut out the salt next time I make it.
Hi AnneMarie, I just updated the recipe to note that I use flake salt. Flake salt is definitely more delicate than table salt, which I’m guessing you probably used. Sorry about that!
Never heard of cottage cheese in a Philly but willing to try it
This cured my craving for a genuine Philly cheesesteak sandwich. Made this for Sunday dinner today and even my picky brother gobbled it up! It’s added to our do over list. Super quick and easy. The cottage cheese and cheese powder are an amazingly delicious binder.
