I look forward to Cyndi’s check in every single Thursday in our Macro Ninja Facebook group. This woman is a pure joy to nutrition coach and it’s been wonderful watching her find food freedom, happiness, and confidence this past year with us. For some a year seems too long, but for those willing to put in the work to finally lose weight the right way, it’s no time at all and well worth the wait. Thank you Cyndi for taking the time to share your journey with us all today!

SFM: When did your weight loss journey actually begin?

Cyndi: I got serious about trying to lose weight in November of 2017. I had had adrenal fatigue and a low immune system for years and had just started to regain some energy. I didn’t really know that much about trying to lose weight. I thought if I could eat low calorie (like 1200 calories a day) and begin doing cardio again, it “might” come off.  I actually got to where I was on the treadmill for an hour and a half a day trying to increase the calorie deficit. Not so great for the adrenals! I did lose about 25 pounds over the next 6 ish months doing that and then it just stopped no matter how much I exercised. Not a fun way to live!! I felt miserable! I did that off and on the rest of 2018 but started following the Stay Fit Mom’s on Instagram and a few other macro counters. I had no idea what macro counting was but kept feeling drawn to it. In February of 2019, I messaged the Stay Fit Mom’s and knew in my heart their program was a much healthier way for me to live and regain my health and lose some unhealthy weight. I started with Coach Krista in March of 2019 and have never looked back! It’s been and continues to be the perfect fit for me.

SFM: You have been so consistent and steady throughout this process.  What keeps you going?

Cyndi: I honestly feel so much better when I’m following my macros, physically and mentally. One of the first things I noticed when I started counting macros was that feeling of, “I just need something but don’t know what” right after a meal, was gone. I also loved that I was eating more each day and still losing inches. It was shocking actually and very motivating.

Having a coach to check in with each week has also been a huge blessing! I didn’t realize how much I needed that accountability.  Knowing I have someone to report in to each week is motivating in a positive way for me.

Lastly, I keep going because it works for me and I absolutely love it and the way I feel! I wouldn’t trade the education I’m getting through this process with Stay Fit Mom’s for anything.

SFM: What surprised you the most about learning to count macros?

Cyndi: I think my biggest surprise was that I wasn’t broken. Once I began counting macros and eating in a much more balanced way, I started losing inches and weight even when I couldn’t exercise for health reasons. I had no idea that eating more would in fact help my metabolism.  It took me a minute to wrap my brain around that. Another surprise was when I started waking up hungry. I can’t remember ever being hungry in the morning. Just another great sign that my metabolism is waking up and working. I love it!

SFM: You’ve encouraged so many of your friends and family to join our program with you. What keeps you signing back up month after month?

I feel like I’ve found my happy place in this Stay Fit Mom community! My coach has been absolutely wonderful to work with from day one! I feel like she cares about me, my health journey and she’s quick to respond to any questions I have. There’s an added level of commitment when you know you have someone to report in to each week. I love having the support and guidance of my coach!

I expected it to be so stressful learning how to count macros but have found the opposite to be true. And, then there’s the community of women in the Stay Fit Mom group! They’re so incredibly supportive and kind!

SFM: What are the biggest challenges you’ve had to overcome when it comes to sticking to the plan?

I learned quickly that planning my day out either the night before or first thing in the morning was going to be key in my success!  As long as I do that, there’s no stress and I have no problem hitting my goals. I usually plug in the snack I want in the evening first then plan dinner and then the rest of my day. Works great for me!

I also learned how to travel and stay in my macros. It takes a little more planning before the trip but it’s been completely do-able so far.

SFM: What does your family think about all your progress and you counting your macros?

I have felt nothing but support  from my family! I’m so grateful!! I asked my hubs tonight at dinner what he thinks about my macro counting journey and he said, “I like that you’ve found something that makes you happy. It seems like you’ve tried some other ways to lose weight but it seems like this one (macro counting) really agrees with you. I can tell because of your state of mind and that you’re excited about it and you’re seeing results.  If you’re happy, I’m happy!

I like that it hasn’t changed our lifestyle. We’re still able to go out to dinner. And, even though I’m not on it, it’s had a positive influence on me. It’s helped me be more aware of what I’m eating.  I like that you don’t feel like you’re being starved or held back or handcuffed. It gives with your desire for long term health and eating better.” He also told me that he’s loved every new macro recipe I’ve tried so far!

SFM: You’ve been able to see drastic progress while working out minimally.  Why do you think that is?

I think, for the first time, I’m eating a much more balanced diet and enough calories to get my metabolism working again. I’m also trying to be pretty consistent with hitting my macros. When I’m consistent, I see progress with the tape measure, my clothes fitting better and even with the scale. Exercise is so good for us for so many reasons and I can’t wait to incorporate it regularly again. I’ve discovered that what we eat is a much bigger piece of the health puzzle than I ever realized.

SFM: Any advice for anyone considering trying to count their macros?

I’d definitely suggest starting with a macro coach. It’s been so helpful having someone that knows what they’re doing showing me what to do and answer all of my questions. And, I love that my macros are tailored just for me and what my body needs.

I’d also say don’t wait for the “perfect time” to start.  Today is a great day to do something that will be so good for you!

Once you start, trust the process. It doesn’t take long to get the hang of macro counting. Stay Fit Mom will give you all the tools and support you need and the rest of us will be here cheering you on!

If you feel the pull to try it, don’t over think it! Just start! Time is going to go by one way or the other. Imagine what a difference a year can make. It’ll be this time next year before you know it and you’ll have a year under your belt (if you even still need a belt at that point)!
