Goals, Priorities and Systems

Let’s talk about priorities. What are they? How do they align with your goals and how do you plan to achieve them? This will take some critical self reflection, but the outcome will be worth it!

Let’s go over some key definitions first!

Priority: The fact or condition of being regarded or treated as more important.
Goals: Are biggest picture tangible milestones that you are trying to achieve.

Priorities are the things you need to say ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ to in order to reach that goal.  We may have a lot of goals, but we CANNOT have a lot of priorities. Realistically, you cannot have 5,6,7,8+ goals if you’re looking to knock those goals out of the park. If you’re looking to really move the needle, you can have 1, 2, or maybe 3 goals.

Let’s start by writing down your own goals. Next, rank them most important to least important (Ultra High, High, Med, Low). If you’re working with a coach here at Stay Fit Mom, your results will correlate with where this ranks amongst your priorities. If you’re wanting to see BIG results, you’ll need to be ruthless in how you go after your goals.

Are your daily priorities supporting your most important goals? If not, why not? If you’re struggling, organize your time for your highest priorities.

Visualize what you want the future to look like and work to understand what you need to be doing TODAY in order to get there.

James Clear talks about designing a system that will support your goals. He said, “Eventually, I began to realize that my results had very little to do with the goals I set and nearly everything to do with the systems I followed.” This is really less about feeling motivated and MORE about organizing and mindfulness on what you spend your time on to make sure you are making time for your Ultra High priorities. Ultra High priorities deserved to be scheduled and time reserved for them so they are not missed.

If you’re wanting to make macro tracking work for your life, meal planning and preparations will need to become part of your systems. Intentionality with your nutrition will need to become high priority.

Eliminate distractions that get in the way of your goals.

Take actions in small steps.

Remember that it’s normal for priorities to change. Reflect on a weekly basis and change up your systems if you aren’t producing the results you desire.

Be HONEST with yourself.

What did you grade yourself this week? OWN IT.

If you are not achieving your goals and you are frustrated, but you are not prioritizing your effort, then go back and figure out what you are prioritizing and review where your systems fail.
