Losing 50+ Pounds Counting Macros

Many people used to believe that counting macros was just for body builders and that it couldn’t/ shouldn’t be used for someone who has a significant amount of weight to lose. In fact, we often get emails from clients that ask this sincere question,

“Can you help me even though I have over 50 lbs of weight to lose?”

The answer is YES, we absolutely can help you lose the weight you need to by counting macros and NO, you shouldn’t do any extreme calorie deficit/ food elimination diet to try and “speed things along.” Feeling urgency to lose the weight is wise. Trying to find a way to shortcut to the process is foolish. There isn’t a quick fix, but there is CERTAINLY HOPE.

Losing 50+ Pounds counting macros!

Today we are filling you with hope with an amazing client spotlight featuring Kayleen Orr! Let’s hear what this wise woman has to say about living this out.

SFM: When did your weight loss journey begin and why did you decide to start?

Kayleen: I started with 1:1 coaching August 2021. I knew about macros and wanted to make sure I was eating what was correct for me. Plus, I loved that I was accountable to someone. Checking in each week helps keep me motivated.

SFM: It’s most definitely NOT just about the scale, but how many pounds have you lost since the beginning of your journey with SFM?

Kayleen: 51 lbs

SFM: You are one of our most consistent clients!  How are you able to do it?  What keeps you going?

Kayleen: I know how far I’ve come, and I want to keep moving forward. Counting my macros has helped me feel more energy and I love the way I feel as a fuel my body. I know that each day/week I get one step closer to my goals and I want to look back and know that I’ve given it my all. Life passes by, whether you are choosing good  habits or not, and I have let enough pass me by treating myself poorly. I want to start living the life I was meant to!

SFM: How has your macro journey impacted other areas of your life besides just needing a new wardrobe?

Kayleen: I have loved going in hikes and feeling like I’m not holding the group back. I’m playing with my kids and soaking up all the time I have with them. I had major foot pain, that has pretty much gone away. So many things that most take for granted, like putting on your shoes, or painting your toe nails, I can now do easily again! There have been so many things that I’ve avoided doing because I was too big. Now, I’m making big plans! I’m excited to ride a roller coaster!!!

SFM: Have the habits you’ve picked up since counting macros rubbed off on your family?  What do they think about it?

Kayleen: Absolutely! While they haven’t made as big of changes as I have, they have started to make small changes and they love seeing me succeed.

SFM: What are the biggest challenges you’ve had to overcome when it comes to sticking to the plan?

Kayleen: My husband and I have date night weekly and it can be difficult to find places to eat that fit within my macros. But we’ve found some places that work and are discovering more. Honestly, it’s been a really good transition for me.  I’ve found a lot of healing with my relationship with food because I’ve let myself have the little things. It’s been so freeing!

SFM: What keeps you signing up for coaching over and over again?

Kayleen: I love having someone that I check in with every week. I know I will have to report if I was just lazy and I didn’t do something I said I was going to do. It gets me up and accountable.

SFM: Any advice for anyone considering trying to count their macros, but feeling defeated at the long journey ahead?

Kayleen: There will never be a more perfect time to start than now. Life will pass by either way. Make today count!

Kayleen’s been working with Coach Kirstin since August and here’s what Kirstin had to say about her.

“Kayleen is one of my MOST consistent clients and that is why she is SO successful!! She never complains, doesn’t make excuses, just puts her head down and works!! She even checked in on VACATION- just for the accountability to be aware of what she was eating and make good choices.
We’ve DOUBLED the amount of protein she’s eating, going from 74g a day to 150g. She’s also a PERFECT example of ‘if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.’  We RARELY do adjustments, and when we do it’s very small, bc the numbers are working, she’s satisfied and biofeedback is good so we CAPITALIZE on that consistency.”
