Buffalo Chicken Dip, 4 images showing step by step of mixing in ingredients.

INGREDIENTS

  • Cooked boneless, skinless chicken breast
  • Plain non fat Greek yogurt
  • Low fat cottage cheese
  • Frank’s Red Hot
  • Sharp cheddar cheese

Recipe Tip

Use cheese off the block for the best melty goodness! Pre-shredded cheese has anti-caking agents that can affect melting, while block cheese melts more smoothly without additives.

Substitutions

Cheese Variations: Swap out the sharp cheddar for other cheeses like mozzarella, pepper jack, or a blend of cheddar and Monterey Jack for different flavor profiles. Blue Cheese Crumbles would be fantastic mixed in or on top as well!

Use Different Sauces: Replace the Frank’s Red Hot with a different buffalo sauce, or try a mix of buffalo sauce and ranch or blue cheese dressing for a creamier dip.

Use Cream Cheese: For a richer, creamier dip, blend in some softened cream cheese.

Meat Options: Try using rotisserie chicken or canned chicken for convenience.

What if I Hate Cottage Cheese?

Blend the yogurt, cottage cheese, and red hot before mixing it into the chicken. You’ll never know the cottage cheese is in there!

What Size Dish Do I Need?

I like to use a size smaller than the traditional 9X13 casserole dish. I measured my medium casserole dish and it’s approximately 8X11. I think you could use a square 10X10 deep dish or even 3-4 of the 32oz. glass meal prep bowls.

What Should I Serve Buffalo Chicken Dip With?

  • Salted Pop Corners are a great idea if you want to save a few extra grams of fat!
  • Crackers
  • Tortilla Chips
  • Carrot Slices
  • Celery Slices

How Can I Add More Veggies to This Dip?

Stir in finely chopped celery, green onions, or bell peppers for extra crunch and flavor. You could also add some spinach for a twist.

What Seasonings Can I Add to This Buffalo Chicken Dip?

Spice It Up: Add a dash of cayenne pepper, jalapeños, or sriracha for more heat.

Herbs & Seasoning: Sprinkle in some garlic powder, onion powder, or smoked paprika for extra depth of flavor.

Storing:

  1. Cool it down first: Let the Buffalo Chicken Dip cool to room temperature before storing it to avoid condensation in the container.
  2. Use an airtight container: Transfer the dip to a sealed container for the best freshness. It will keep for up to 3-4 days in the fridge.
  3. Freezing (optional): If you want to keep it longer, you can freeze buffalo chicken dip. Just make sure to use a freezer-safe container or a heavy-duty freezer bag. It can be frozen for up to 2-3 months.

Reheating:

  1. Stovetop: Reheat on low heat in a saucepan, stirring occasionally to avoid burning. You can add a splash of milk or more ranch/blue cheese dressing to help loosen it up if it’s too thick.
  2. Microwave: Place the dip in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 30-second intervals, stirring in between to make sure it heats evenly. Keep an eye on it, so it doesn’t bubble over.
  3. Oven: If you want to reheat it in the oven, preheat to 350°F (175°C). Place the dip in an oven-safe dish and cover with foil. Heat for 15-20 minutes, or until heated through. You can remove the foil in the last few minutes to let the top get a little crispy, if you like!

Is a great alternative to one of my favorite party snacks. I do love buffalo flavor so add extra on top of what this recipe calls for. It’s great with mini bell pepper, cucumbers, chips or crackers. I even have wrapped it up in a taco shell to make a quesadilla
