As a coach, I want you to enjoy your summer.
I want you to take the vacation. Eat the ice cream. Go to the BBQ. Stay up late making memories with your family. Summer is meant to be enjoyed.
What I don’t want is for you to wake up after Labor Day feeling like you’ve spent three months undoing all of your hard work.
One of the biggest mistakes women make is believing they have to choose between having fun and staying on track. In reality, the most successful women learn how to do both.
Most people swing between two extremes:
❌ All in
❌ All out
The sweet spot is somewhere in the middle.
At Stay Fit Mom, we call this a habits-based approach. Instead of trying to be perfect, focus on a few simple habits that allow you to enjoy the season while maintaining your progress.

Keep Some Form of Intentionality with Your Nutrition
Summer doesn’t have to be a season of meticulous macro tracking.
For many women, simply tracking calories and protein provides enough awareness and structure to prevent things from spiraling while still allowing flexibility for vacations, date nights, and special occasions.
Another option is to focus on having 3 macro balanced meals/day.
The goal isn’t perfection. The goal is staying connected to your habits.
Plan Dinners Three Days at a Time
Not a whole month of planning. Not even a full week. Just three days. It’s enough structure to avoid the daily, “What’s for dinner?” scramble, but flexible enough for summer spontaneity.
Continue Strength Training
You don’t need to spend hours in the gym.
You don’t need to set personal records every week.
But maintaining a consistent strength training routine can help preserve muscle, support metabolism, and keep you feeling strong throughout the summer months.
Some workouts will be great. Some will simply be checking the box.
Both count.
Prioritize Daily Movement
One of the easiest ways to support your health during the summer is to keep moving.
Take a walk after dinner. Walk the dog. Explore a new city on vacation. Spend time outside with your kids.
Movement doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective.
Focus on Adding, Not Restricting
Instead of obsessing over foods to avoid, focus on foods to include.
A simple goal like eating three servings of vegetables each day can improve fullness, digestion, energy levels, and overall nutrition quality.
Sometimes the best strategy isn’t eating less—it’s eating more of the foods that help you feel your best.

Keep a Few Non-Negotiables
Every successful client has a handful of habits that keep them grounded.
Maybe it’s:
- Drinking enough water
- Reading for 10 minutes each morning
- Getting to bed on time
- Hitting a daily step goal
You don’t need to maintain your entire routine. You just need a few anchors that help you stay consistent.
The Goal Isn’t Weight Loss
This might surprise you, but for many women, the goal of summer shouldn’t be aggressive fat loss.
The goal should be maintenance.
Maintenance is a skill.
If you can enjoy vacations, pool parties, family gatherings, summer treats, and spontaneous adventures while maintaining your weight and healthy habits, that’s a huge win.
In fact, it’s one of the most important skills we teach our coaching clients.
Not every season has to be about pushing harder.
Some seasons are about practicing balance.
Make Memories Without Losing Momentum
This summer, give yourself permission to enjoy life.
You don’t need to choose between making memories and making progress.
You can do both.
Focus on a few simple habits, stay consistent more often than not, and remember that maintaining your progress through a busy season is something to celebrate—not something to apologize for.
