If you loved the original Strawberry Nutella Protein Pancakes from Meal Prep Recipes Volume 1, you’re going to love this updated version even more. This recipe still has all the cozy, chocolatey strawberry flavor everyone loved… but now it’s made with real strawberries and a few simple ingredient swaps that make it even easier to throw together.
The original recipe used strawberry pie filling and Kodiak Cakes pancake mix. This new version uses regular buttermilk pancake mix, extra protein powder, and frozen strawberries for a more fresh, homemade flavor while keeping the macros very similar to the original recipe.
These Real Strawberry Nutella Protein Pancake Bowls are soft, fluffy, packed with protein, and perfect for meal prep breakfasts throughout the week. They honestly taste like dessert but fit right into your macros.

Protein Powder Recommendation
I use vanilla whey protein powder from Clean Simple Eats for this recipe. It bakes really well and gives these pancake bowls a sweet vanilla flavor without making them dry. They have a lot of great flavors that would work well in these pancake bowls. You can always use our discount code, stayfitmom to save 10% on your order.

A Few Notes About the Updated Recipe
One of my goals with updating some of the original cookbook recipes for the website is making them even more approachable with ingredients people already have on hand.
Using regular pancake mix plus additional protein powder keeps the texture soft and fluffy while still giving you a solid amount of protein per serving. The frozen strawberries also add a more natural strawberry flavor compared to pie filling.
And the best part? The macros are still very comparable to the original version.
Meal Prep Tips
I love baking these directly in my glass meal prep bowls so breakfast is already portioned and ready to grab throughout the week.
Store covered in the fridge and simply reheat in the microwave for about 45–60 seconds before serving.
If you want to level them up even more, try topping them with:
- Fresh strawberries
- A drizzle of Nutella
- Whipped cream
- Mini chocolate chips
- Greek yogurt

Topping Ideas
These Real Strawberry Nutella Protein Pancake Bowls are delicious on their own, but the toppings make them even better. Here are some of our favorite ways to serve them:
- Sugar-free pancake syrup
- Zero calorie maple syrup
- Fresh sliced strawberries
- Light whipped cream or Cool Whip
- Extra drizzle of Nutella
- Mini chocolate chips
- Greek yogurt
- Powdered sugar
- Crushed graham crackers
- Sliced bananas
- Chopped peanuts or almonds
- Peanut butter drizzle
If you’re meal prepping these for the week, I recommend storing the toppings separately and adding them right before serving for the best texture.
How to Reheat
These pancake bowls reheat really well, which makes them perfect for busy mornings.
Simply remove the lid and microwave for 1–2 minutes, or until warmed through. Microwave times may vary slightly depending on your bowl size and microwave strength.
Add your favorite toppings after reheating and breakfast is ready in just a couple minutes.

Real Strawberry Nutella Protein Pancake Bowls
Equipment
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups buttermilk pancake mix, 148g
- 10 tablespoons Clean Simple Eats vanilla protein powder, 80g
- 1 cup 2% milk
- 1 cup frozen strawberries, 140g
- 5 tablespoons Nutella, 93g
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Arrange 5 oven-safe dishes on a sheet pan and lightly coat with cooking spray. I like to use the 2 cup glass bowls for these.
- Add 1/4 cup pancake mix, 2 tablespoons protein powder, and 1/4 cup milk to each bowl. Stir until well combined.
- Place the strawberries in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for 2–3 minutes to soften. Blend until smooth if desired, then evenly distribute the strawberries between the 5 bowls.
- Add 1 tablespoon of Nutella to each bowl. If preferred, microwave the Nutella for about 20–30 seconds first to soften. Gently swirl the strawberries and Nutella into the batter slightly.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the centers are set and cooked through.
- Allow the pancake bowls to cool before covering and storing in the refrigerator. Reheat in the microwave for 1–2 minutes each morning and enjoy with your favorite pancake toppings.
