It can start as early as your 30’s and last into your 50’s. Commercials and ads are full of the horrors: hot flashes, weight gain, hair loss, memory issues. And you may have to endure it for twenty years!!!!
BUT WAIT–
Our bodies were MADE to do this. It’s natural. It isn’t a surprise!! Women have always been navigating this even if they didn’t discuss it as openly before.
Similar to gluten free products (have you browsed those shelves lately?!)– there is the most help ever for it in our current world.
But there is also SO MUCH you can do on your own to simply age well.
Before you freak out–
Let’s have a sober self-assessment and make sure we’re doing the minimum to support our amazing bodies:
- Are you eating well? Nourishing your body with plenty of protein, veggies, fruits?
- Have you been consistent with macro counting?
- Are you taking supplements that support your body? Vitamin d, magnesium, multivitamin, collagen, creatine
- Are you exercising in a way that benefits your older body? Lifting weights mixed with some cardio– you can find any data you want to support it, but you can’t escape that strength training and cardio both work wonders for our bodies as they grow older.

If you lock in these basics, so many other things will level out as they have a trickle-down effect. And if things don’t improve– it is a great thing to seek help with a medical provider!! More on what questions to ask and where to find a doctor HERE. You can listen to our full Perimenopause podcast episode with Nurse Practitioner Katie Kelly HERE.

But you will never regret having the big rocks on lock– it can help eliminate a lot of the smaller roadblocks to getting care for what is really happening behind the scenes. When you walk into a doctor’s office and can show them exactly what you’re eating and how you’re moving to support your body, you’ll already be on the fast track.
So approach these years with hope and a positive outlook– are our bodies going to take a little more TLC than they have needed in the past? Highly likely. Are they going to be a little slower to respond? Probably! We are older and aging, and that is simply natural. But we are not without hope. Definitely seek out medical help to keep you feeling your best and the most like yourself, but don’t forget to check the boxes on the basics first- it will only help! Our bodies are a gift and we have the privilege of maintaining them, even if they get a little cranky on us sometimes!
