There are people out there that will tell you “New Year, New You” slogans are silly. Others say that New Years’ resolutions are a waste of time, yet some of the most remarkable transformations we’ve seen this year were our January start clients. Meet Ashley Mills, Stay Fit Mom Ninja extraordinaire! She signed up with us in January 2019 and the transformation she’s made in 12 months is inspiring! I interviewed Ashley to gather inspiration for the rest of us as we head into 2020 with big goals!
Ashley is down 34 pounds eating more food now (over 2300 calories daily) than when she started our coaching program. Because of her schedule she also hasn’t been able to consistently workout, yet her body composition changes, overall health improvements, and increases in energy level prove that monitoring your nutrition IS the most impactful thing you can do for your body!
SFM: When did your weight loss journey begin?
Ashley: I have really battled with weight loss since college but it became a major issue for me after having my first child and then went thru the same after having my 2nd. I have done weight watchers, calorie counting, low carb, paleo, whole 30, and juice fasting and these yo-yo diets have me laughing now.
SFM: You have been so consistent and steady throughout this process. What keeps you going?
Ashley: I have always been very self motivated and when I put my determination into something I typically give it my all. There are some days that have been really hard but like the coaches have said macros are the one thing you can always be in control of which give me this sense of empowerment
SFM: How has your macro journey impacted other areas of your life besides just needing a new wardrobe?
Ashley: My overall well-being and health in general mentally and physically has changed dramatically over the last year. I feel better and have more energy with my kids. I also have such a better relationship with food, I don’t find myself wanting to stress eat or food being my outlet and I know how to indulge every once in a while without ruining everything I have going.
SFM: Have the habits you’ve picked up since counting macros rubbed of on your family? What do they think about it?
Ashley: I have maybe rubbed off on my kids with making better choices a bit but they sure do like treats still! My hubby on the other hand still hasn’t quite determined he is ready to make a 100% change he knows what he needs to do but he also still thinks I’m nuts for weighing and logging my food, but he thinks it is amazing the results and what all I’m eating.
SFM: What are the biggest challenges you’ve had to overcome when it comes to sticking to the plan?
Ashley: Eating out and traveling are still somewhat difficult for me but I am getting much better.
SFM: What keeps you signing up for coaching over and over again?
Ashley: The accountability and expertise I know I am not ready to be on my own just yet. I really love to hear feedback and even constructive criticism if needed.
SFM: You’ve been able to see drastic progress while working out minimally. Why do you think that is?
Ashley: This baffles me everyday. After my first kid I jumped straight into paleo and CrossFit and was nearing the best shape of my life but I worked out hard 5-6 days /week and even got rhabdo once! I am slowly getting back into fitness and I’m okay with that. The science of macros really blows my mind and gets my inner nerd so excited.
SFM: Any advice for anyone considering trying to count their macros?
Ashley: While tracking macros might not be for everyone, those that are able to do it will be super thankful, especially if you like to still enjoy ALL the things in moderation of course. It takes some patience and may be slow at times but this is how you change your habits for life and keep your weight off for life not just pack it right back on after doing some other yo-yo diet. I don’t use the word diet anymore because this is how I know I’m supposed to fuel my body!
A huge congratulations to Ashley for all her progress in 2019! We wish her all the best as she heads into 2020 with new goals we know she’ll conquer!
We’d love to help you on your journey.
