If you haven’t tried Smash Tacos yet, what are you waiting for? We made these viral Smash Tacos on repeat last summer when traveling in the RV. We cooked them on the flat top travel grill, with a foil wrapped rock, and couldn’t get enough of them! I’ve since made them at least 6 times at home and they are a hit every single time. The whole family loves smash taco night! So, what are you waiting for? Grab the ingredients and add these to your meal plan for the week, you will be so happy that you did!

Supplies Used

15″ Lodge Cast Iron Skillet–This pan fits 3 tacos at once so you can feed more people at once!

Burger Press–This is perfect for cooking smash tacos outdoors on the BBQ or on a flat top grill! When making these inside I prefer to press the beef on the tortillas with my hands before putting them in the skillet.

You can store any leftover Smash Tacos by storing the tortilla with cooked ground beef and melted cheese in an air tight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

You can reheat these by popping them in the microwave for 2 minutes. Then, just add your desired toppings and enjoy another day!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef, 90/10
  • 8 6-inch corn tortillas
  • 8 slices American cheese singles
  • 3 tablespoons light mayo, 45g
  • 1.5 tablespoons ketchup, 30g
  • 2 teaspoons mustard, 10g
  • 2 tablespoons minced pickles, 20g
  • 1/4 teaspoon white vinegar or pickle juice
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt & pepper

Optional toppings:

  • lettuce
  • tomatoes
  • avocado
  • pickles

Instructions

  • In a small mixing bowl combine the mayo, ketchup, mustard, pickles, vinegar, and garlic powder.
  • Heat up a large pan or flat top grill to medium high.
  • Lay out 8 tortillas on a flat surface. Press 2 ounces of ground beef onto the top of each tortilla, covering almost the whole surface space of the tortilla. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  • Place each taco ground beef side down on your grill or in your pan. Cook until no longer pink and flip. Place 1 slice of cheese on top of the beef. Cook until tortilla is crispy and cheese is melted.
  • Top each taco with 13g of sauce (about 1 tablespoon) and any additional toppings you like. We do lettuce, tomatoes, and extra pickles.

Notes

I’ve found that smashing the ground beef right onto the tortilla is the easiest method when cooking at home in the kitchen. It’s fun to smash them when using an outdoor grill and you have plenty of space, but indoors I prefer pre smashing.
These shouldn’t be super greasy. If you’re using a lean ground beef (90/10 or 96/4) they cook perfectly.

These were amazing! I only had Xtreme wellness tortillas on hand so I added 5 ounces of beef to each for 1 serving. Otherwise I made as recipe stated. So freaking delicious!
