Chad's Easy Tortellini ingredients.

INGREDIENTS

  • Ground turkey (93/7)
  • Cheese tortellini (We like Kirkland or Rana brands)
  • Marinara sauce (I used Bertolli Olive Oil and Garlic)
  • 1/3 less fat cream cheese

Optional Topping:

  • Fresh grated parmesan cheese

Substitutions

Ground Meat Alternatives:

  • Ground Chicken or Beef: If someone doesn’t prefer turkey, they could use ground chicken (lean) or lean ground beef (90% or higher).
  • Ground Pork or Sausage: For a richer flavor, ground pork or Italian sausage (can be lean or full fat, depending on preference) could be a great option.
  • Plant-Based Protein: For vegetarians or those avoiding meat, a plant-based ground protein like Beyond Meat or lentils could work well in place of the ground turkey.

Tortellini Options

  • Gluten-Free Tortellini: For anyone who is gluten intolerant or following a gluten-free diet, many brands now offer gluten-free tortellini.
  • Frozen Tortellini: If fresh isn’t available, frozen tortellini works just as well.
  • Ravioli or Other Pasta: If tortellini isn’t preferred, you can easily swap it for ravioli, penne, or any other pasta of choice. Just keep in mind the macros will need to be recalculated.

Cream Cheese Alternatives:

  • Full-Fat Cream Cheese: If you prefer the richness of full-fat cream cheese you can swap it in. Of course the macros will need to be recacluated.
  • Greek Yogurt: For a lighter alternative, plain Greek yogurt (especially the 2% variety) could be substituted for the cream cheese.
  • Non-Dairy Cream Cheese: For a dairy-free option, non-dairy cream cheese (such as made from cashews or coconut) would work.

Marinara Sauce Variations:

  • Spicy Marinara: For a kick of heat, a spicy marinara or adding red pepper flakes would work well.
  • Pesto Sauce: For a different flavor twist, a pesto sauce could be used in place of the marinara.

Vegetable Additions:

  1. Spinach: Fresh or frozen spinach is an easy add-in that will boost the nutrition while complementing the flavors.
  2. Zucchini: Diced zucchini can be sautéed along with the turkey for added texture and nutrients.
  3. Mushrooms: Sliced mushrooms would bring a savory, earthy flavor to the dish.
  4. Bell Peppers: Colorful bell peppers, sliced thin, would add sweetness and crunch to the recipe.
  5. Onions: Sautéed onions (yellow, red, or white) would bring out a delicious depth of flavor when cooked with the turkey.
  6. Broccoli: Small florets of broccoli, either steamed or sautéed, would be a great veggie to add for extra crunch and nutrition.
  7. Cauliflower: For a lighter, lower-carb alternative, cauliflower could be chopped up and added for some extra texture and nutrients.
  8. Carrots: Finely shredded carrots could add a sweet and crunchy element, especially for those who like a little more texture in their dishes.

Additional Flavor Enhancers:

  • Garlic: Minced garlic would add great flavor to the turkey while it cooks.
  • Fresh Basil or Oregano: Adding a sprinkle of fresh herbs can elevate the dish.
  • Crushed Red Pepper Flakes: For a little heat, adding a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes to the marinara sauce would kick things up a notch.

Supplies Used

  1. 10.5″ Fry Pan – I’ve been loving this new non-stick pan for cooking quick, easy meals like this one!

Storing & Reheating Instructions

Storing:

  1. Refrigeration – Let the tortellini cool completely before transferring it to an airtight container. Store in the fridge for up to 4 days.
  2. Freezing (Optional) – If you want to freeze it, place it in a freezer-safe container or bag. It will last for up to 2 months.

Reheating:

  • Stovetop (Best Method): Add the tortellini and a splash of water or marinara sauce to a pan. Heat over medium-low, stirring occasionally, until warmed through.
  • Microwave: Place in a microwave-safe dish with a little extra sauce or water. Cover loosely and heat in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until hot.

This is by far one our StayFitMom family favorites. I make mine gluten free with Taste of Republic’s cheese tortellini because our daughter has Celiac disease. Thank you for making family friendly recipes. I also use sweet turkey sausage and adjust the macros.
