Big Bear Lake Couples Winter Getaway

Big Bear Lake offers a great getaway for families during all seasons, but this special trip was all about taking a break from parent life to enjoy each other’s company kid-free! Just a little over 3.5 hours from Las Vegas, 1.5 hours outside of Barstow, makes for an easy drive worth the experience!

Where did we stay?

For this trip we hopped on to airbnb.com and found the BEST home to stay in, Kong’s Cabin! It is walking distance to the slopes and very close to Big Bear Lake Village. Upon arrival we were greeted with a bottle of wine, water & snacks, and beautiful Christmas decor! I was most excited about the cozy fireplace and hot tub. We used both. Conveniently located, enough space for two couples (or a family) to fit comfortably, the great hospitality, and affordability made this one of my best airbnb experiences! What’s there to do?

There’s so much to do in Big Bear all year round. You can read about our summer family adventure here. While we didn’t ski or board this trip, I’ve heard the best things about the slopes. Inquire at Big Bear Mountain Resort for more information. Our biggest highlight this trip was the Pine Knot trail. We had intended to snow shoe, however we didn’t think there’d be enough snow on the ground. When we got up higher in elevation we discovered there was plenty! We spent one morning shopping at Big Bear Lake Village, and the evenings were spent with wine and the jacuzzi at Kong’s Cabin. Our final adventure before heading out was a walk on the Alpine Pedal Path to take in the views around the lake.

Where did we eat?

A couples getaway isn’t complete without some fine dining. The first night we enjoyed a steak dinner at Captain’s Anchorage, walking distance from Kong’s Cabin. Day two, after a long day of hiking we settled on pizza at Maggio’s Pizza. We finished the trip with a delicious breakfast at Grizzly Manor Cafe – highly recommend, but put your reservation in early!
