Once you’ve got the Ziploc® brand bags with Easy Open Tabs, you need the tribe. Have you ever heard the phrase, “It takes a village?” Over the past few years, I have grown to develop a huge appreciation for moms. I really had no idea what I was getting myself into when I had my first kid. Does anybody really? What keeps me afloat during motherhood are the friendships and support I receive from other moms. I have been so blessed to form relationships with women who are REAL, funny, OPENLY struggling through it all, and who make me feel valuable in a time in my life when diffusing tantrums is my daily reality, especially when school is back in session. If you don’t have a tribe of fellow moms, find one… or better yet, start one! It is THE best advice I received, and I continue to pass it on to fellow moms.

This Paleo Freezer Meal Swap all started through a single group text message with six women.  I texted my tribe and asked if they’d be interested in participating. Each of us committed to making six family servings of one paleo freezer meal of our choosing, so that we would all end up with six different meals to come home with! Making a large batch of one menu item is FAR easier than making six different meals! The best part of the whole thing? You will end up with six pre-made meals. That’s six dinners that you don’t have to worry about! Perfect for those school nights filled with sports or activities.

It also gives you an opportunity to get together with your tribe! That’s a win-win in my book!

We want you to have a successful back-to-school meal swap, so here are a few tips that we found helpful.

First, pick something manageable. Crock-pot meals are great! You are going to be making multiple batches of the same thing, and you want this to be an enjoyable experience, so I would recommend avoiding meals that will take an extraordinary amount of time. I tried to make enchiladas for my first freezer meal swap and was in over my head. I was assembling for hours on end. NOT worth it.

Second, communicate with your tribe. You don’t want meals replicated, and it’s always good to know if anybody in the group has any food allergies. Third, write directions and the date on the Ziploc® brand Freezer bag with Easy Open Tabs in permanent marker. A good rule of thumb is to eat the freezer meals within three months.

There’s a number of ways to do freezer meals. Sometimes the food is cooked and will need to be reheated. Sometimes the meals are completely assembled but will need to be baked or put in the Crock-pot. Including clear directions will avoid confusion. Finally, include a copy of the recipe. Every time I do a freezer meal swap there’s always at least one meal that ends up being a HUGE hit with the whole family. I love having the recipes on hand, so I can include them in our menu!
